Memory Match

Flip matching pairs to clear the board. Every wrong guess costs a 1-second penalty. Sharp eyes beat fast clicks.

Flip two, see if they match, try to remember where everything was three flips ago. Simple rules, surprisingly merciless on a Monday.

Pairs-matching memory games don't trace back to one famous original the way Snake or Solitaire do — variants of 'flip two cards, remember where things are' have existed in card-game form for over a century, well before video games existed to digitise them. What's kept the format alive that long is its honesty: there's no luck involved beyond the initial card layout, no skill ceiling to grind toward, just whether you can hold a growing mental map of the board as more tiles get revealed. The three grid sizes here scale that mental map up or down depending on how much working memory you've got spare today.

How to play

Click tiles to flip them face up two at a time. Matching pairs stay revealed; mismatches flip back over. Clear the whole board to finish.

Scoring

Scored by completion time, with a 1-second penalty added per mismatch — lower total time wins.

Why play this?

Choose your grid size based on how much concentration you've got left in the tank — there's no shame in starting on easy.

Questions

What are the grid size options?

4×4 (easy), 4×5 (medium), and 4×6 (hard), each with its own leaderboard.

Does a mismatch cost me time or just look bad?

Both — each mismatch adds a 1-second penalty directly to your final time.
