The long game. Pace yourself.

This tool calculates how many years, months, working days, and working hours remain until your target retirement age.

Most people know their retirement age in years. Fewer have thought about it in working hours. Both numbers are useful, for different reasons. The years number is the plan. The hours number is the reality check.

How we work it out

We calculate the date when you will reach your target retirement age, then count the days from today. Working days use your hours and days-per-week settings to estimate how many of those days involve being at work. All figures assume a consistent schedule with no career breaks.

Questions

What is the average retirement age?

In the US, the average effective retirement age is around 64 for men and 62 for women, though the full Social Security retirement age is currently 67 for those born after 1960. The tool defaults to 65 as a common planning target.

Does this account for holidays or sick days?

No. Working days here means days you would notionally be at work based on your days-per-week setting, without subtracting holidays, leave, or sick days. The actual number will be somewhat lower.
